Vorerst versuche ich, eine Einsicht in die Mythologie (bzw. die paintings der Weltbetrachtung) des Surrealismus zu liefern, welche jedes Objekt, jeden Gegenstand aus der realen Welt als Antwort auf Stimmen und Fragen aus dem Unterbewußtsein definiert. Der für die Surrealisten so wichtigen Entdeckung des Unbewußten durch Sigmund Freud werde ich mich unter Punkt I.2 zuwenden, der daraus resultierenden Theorie der Surrealisten über das „objet trouvé“, unter Einbeziehung des urgeschichtlichen Glaubens an Objektbesessenheit, Animismus und Fetischkult unter II.2. Auf diesen Erkenntnisse basierend, werde ich den Einfluß Lautréamonts auf die surrealistische Suche nach einer „beauté convulsive“ erläutern und auf die verschiedenen Aspekte surrealistischer Anforderungen eingehen, die sie an ihre „konstruierten Objekte“ stellten.
Das abschließende Kapitel widme ich einigen Arbeiten Alberto Giacomettis, der als erster surrealistischer Bildhauer gilt und bedeutend zu der Entstehung der „Objekte mit symbolischer Funktion beigetragen hat.
